1974 Alvarez 5014 vintage MI Japan 000-18 Martin copy $559.00
Here we have a freshly set up great player it’s got the mojo and the playability action and neck set is structurally excellent correct neck angle to this day
This warm patina looking classic 000-18 style by Alvarez is about 45 years old with nice low action with plenty of room on the saddle
and the trussrod to further adjust to taste. The mahogany neck is really nice and playable feel to it familiar much like the 000- Martin it copy’s medium profile to a soft V it’s 1-11/16ths nut width. It has a very nicely Patina’ed Spruce top that is still nice and flat as is its original bridge, body has black bindings with a mahogany back and sides , it has no structural cracks but some areas look to haver some checking starting up and has multiplayer dings scuffs and scratches but over all still quite a vintage beauty non the less a real vintage guitar of character , and with its attributes I consider this guitar worthy to do our JVG upgrades ... I started with the tuners to a good the full size Rotomatic style Grover tuning gears to replace the 44 year old cheap grade original tuners as seen at same time I removed all its tone robbing plastic for genuine cattle bone nut and compensated saddle along with a set of high end fancy detailed solid bone bridge pins , besides this I did further work to this old but goodie... I really thought this guitar was playing good and bends and such were easy no fretting out really pretty nice but the frets showed minor play with a few slight divots so I did what I consider a minor Fret level ... I didn’t have to take that much off which I like to leave most onboard and was successful and taking a little down uniformly across the full fingerboard then I re-crown and polish them all... and polish the entire guitar without removing its natural patina... overall the finish still is glass like.. Japan masters of the thin poly finish I’m impressed as a painter myself they did them very nicel... thin to allow the acoustics to breath threw the woods... but
This poly finish out lasts the old US finishes that were mainly lacquer ... I used lemon oil and re-hydrated the fingerboard and bridge they look like a high quality exotic rosewood as does it’s bridge on this one. Not new or mint of course it’s been well loved and played over its 45 years and has the aged tone woods your going to really enjoy playing... like a 45 year old friend waiting for your next song. she’s Ready for another 45 years of enjoyment with care.
Just in and being set up as described above new high res pics soon to come...
Available ............. Enjoy!
